The first day of college football calls for something real special.
Like Ham and Swiss Party sandwiches. You know what I'm talking about. The butter and mustard and Swiss and ham and poppy seeds? The ones that, whenever you find them at a party, you accidentally eat 17 of?
Yeah. Those. They rock. Something serious. They make Brandon fist pump. Well. Maybe not. I don't think I've ever seen the man fist pump. Or leg kick, for that matter. But they make him very happy.
They also make me happy! Happy like cherry coke, those pony tail holders that don't leave creases, 90's music and internet. AND HAVING LABOR DAY OFF.
Go have a party. And make some Ham and Swiss Party Sandwiches. OR just make them for yourself and invite me over. Either way.
Ham and Swiss Party Sandwiches
adapted from every Delta mother
1 package of honey wheat Hawaiian rolls (12 small rolls)
4 slices of deli ham
8 slices of Sargento ultra thin Swiss cheese
1/2 stick of butter
1 tbl mustard
1 tbl finely chopped onion
1 tbl poppy seeds
1/2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
Preheat oven to 375.
Melt the butter in a small skillet. Add in the mustard, onion, poppy seeds and Worcestershire sauce. Cook until onions begin to get tender.
Take the Hawaiian rolls, slice them in half lengthwise; do not separate the rolls.
Spread the butter mixture on the bottom half. Place 8 slices of cheese on top of the butter and 4 slices of ham on top of the cheese. Place the top layer of bread over the ham and wrap tightly in foil.
Cook for about 15 - 20 minutes or until heated through and cheese is melted.
Cut each roll apart.
